District DI Coordination Mechanism as a support for the foster families

The role of the family in the prevention of child abuse and violence

On January 19, 2023, the Burgas Regional Administration held training for foster families from the Burgas region. 29 foster parents from the cities of Burgas, Karnobat, Sredets, Malko Tarnovo participated. The training is organized by the Burgas District DI Coordination Mechanism chaired by Prof. Maria Neykova – regional governor, in partnership with the regional team of the “Accept Me” project and the Association “Demetra” – Burgas, which are members of the DDICM.

The parents themselves have undergone introductory training, but every new knowledge and skill is beneficial to them, and the challenges for them are many. A training team from “Association Demetra” conducted training on the topic “The role of the family in the prevention of violence and child abuse”. By applying interactive techniques, the trainers worked to increase the awareness and sensitivity of parents about the types of violence, the causes and effects on children, signs of violence, how and where to seek help for their children.

The training participants received the “Demetra Association” Handbook to help parents to prevent violence “More Informed Parents, More Protected Children”.

At the end of the training, the social workers from the Accept Me Project shared their satisfaction and emphasized the benefit of the meeting, expressed their desire for new meetings and trainings on the topic. The need for quality social services for children is our goal and we will continue to look for opportunities to support professionals and foster parents.
