In support of distance learning

Thirty years ago, the world promised children to grow, learn, enjoy and realize their full potential. The Convention on the Rights of the Child is part of world law, and since 1991 it has been part of the internal law of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria has always worked to promote its values and principles because today’s children are tomorrow’s adults and we are responsible for our common future.

This year has put us in front of new challenges – social isolation, confinement in homes, lack of funds in families, distance learning and many ambiguities for today and tomorrow.

We are all afraid of infected with COVID -19. We are afraid for the lives of our loved ones and friends, but if we think about it, we will find that we live through our children. We need to inspire them for the future. We must unlock curiosity about the world, the pursuit of knowledge and discovery. Social isolation can have huge consequences for children, because we need communication and only through it do we create the invisible, constructive foundations of society.

One of the basic rights of children is the right to education, and if until a year ago the obstacles for children were lack of clothes, shoes and teaching aids, then 2020 added another problem – lack of sufficient devices for distance learning. According to recent studies, the pandemic can lead to a large number of children who do not attend school and are at risk of becoming illiterate and socially excluded.

Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria, in partnership with the Anglo-American School in Sofia, we provided electronic devices to children from the families we work with. With these devices, students will be able to learn effectively and will not be deprived of access to education.

The laptops went to students from the districts of Sofia, Vidin, Vratsa, Pleven, Sliven, Burgas, Haskovo, Stara Zagora and Kardzhali. The children come from families with more than one child and are without financial means.

Caring for our good future depends on how we approach children today, and that is why we strive for as many children as possible to live in a loving family environment, to have access to education and social services.
