Partnership for support of children and families

On November 28, 2019, in the Regional Administration of Burgas, the nineteenth session on work on cases of the District DI Coordination Mechanism (DDICM) of Children was held.

The session was attended by 15 representatives of institutions, members of the District DI Coordination Mechanism, engaged in working with children at risk at the municipal and regional levels.

During the meeting was discussed the case of a child of 2.5 months – a girl at risk of abandonment at the proposal of the Head of CPD in Sozopol. The family has 4 children and lives in a village 70 km from Sozopol. Parents experience serious difficulties in providing the child with the necessary food, diapers, a bed, as well as food and living conditions for the whole family. The CPD social worker has mobilized a local resource to care for the child and family and is working to clarify the situation around that family. Hope and homes for children – Bulgaria will support the parents by providing the most needed food and other products for the child, the help of the Bulgarian Red Cross will be sought, the campaign organized by the District DI Coordination Mechanism in December will provide for the family diapers, milk, clothes.

On the second item of the agenda, the Regional Coordinator for Burgas Region – Antoniya Messerdzhieva informed the members of the DDICM about the purpose, content and results of the International conference “Deinstitutionalization of childcare: investing in change”, held in Sofia in early November, at which Hope and homes for children – Bulgaria was co-organizer.

On the third item of the agenda, the Regional Coordinator of the National project ‘Accept Me’ informed the DDICM’s members about the status of foster care in the area. There are 7 free foster families in the municipality of Burgas at this stage, but the number of foster families for children up to 3 years old is still small and insufficient in our district and this makes it difficult for the social services to care for children at risk of abandonment.

At the end of the session, we announced for the fourth year the campaign “Tree of the Good”, which will be implemented in the Regional Administration of Burgas and again the call for food, clothes and toys is a priority for children up to 3 years old, to provide them to families, that we work with in the region.
