On December 10, 2019, a meeting of the District DI Coordination Mechanism (DDICM) was held in the hall of the Regional Administration in Haskovo.
The meeting was opened and chaired by Malina Slavova – Coordinator of the DDICM for Haskovo District.
The meeting was attended by the Director of regional directorate for social assistance, Directors of Directorates for social assistance and Child protection departments representatives from the district, Director of Regional Health Inspectorate, experts from the District Administration, Haskovo Municipality, Foster care team and Regional Coordinators of Hope and Homes for Children.
The meeting presented the work of the institutions for de-institutionalization in 2019.
Mrs. Zara Kostadinova, Head of Department of CPD – Haskovo presented the state of Home for medical and social care for children in Haskovo at the moment and emphasized the important role of Hope and homes for children – Bulgaria for the removal of children from the home. In 2019, 5 children were transferred from the Home with medical and social care for children, 4 of whom, with the active support of Hope and homes for children – Bulgaria and 1 child were internationally adopted. The current status of foster care was discussed / there are 127 foster families in Haskovo / and construction of new services to support the process of deinstitutionalisation.
The future steps and actions of all stakeholders in the process of closing down institutions and building community-based services were also outlined, which in turn would provide children with a family or close to family environment.
