In the past year 2018 “Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria”, together with the partners at local and national level, achieved sustainable results on the prevention of the abandonment of children in Yambol and dropping out the necessity of the existence of the home there.
The House for Medical and Social Care for Children in Yambol will be closed, proposes Health Minister Kiril Ananiev to the government. He has submitted a bill for discussion, and his vote will be after 19 January.
The solution is in line with the national deinstitutionalization strategy for children and its updated action plan, which provides closure of homes and creation of alternative care services and forms.
The Baby Home, with the status of medical center, has no children since September 7, 2018, which happened with the active work of Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria. In order to prevent new placements, active support is being developed for families in crisis.
The costs for the liquidation procedure of the home will be about 100 thousand BGN and will be at the expense of the Ministry of Health.
The free funds will be redirected towards the opening of centers for the complex service of children with disabilities and chronic diseases.
